Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi rides the TTC on the way to a meeting during his whirlwind tour of Toronto.
RENE JOHNSTON/TORONTO STAR
Naheed Nenshi runs down the stairs at Union Station, rushing to catch the subway to get to yet another interview.

Educated at the University of Calgary and Harvard University, Nenshi is engaging and funny, often poking fun at himself. He speaks without notes, glancing at his iPhone only twice — to make sure he’s quoting the Aga Khan correctly.
He touted his Calgary, noting it is less constrained by history than other places. He called the city “the absolute epitome of a meritocracy.”
“In Calgary, nobody cares who your daddy was. Nobody cares what your last name is or how much money you come from,” he said. “What they care about is what you bring to the table. They care about your ideas, your ability to get things done.”
