Telecompaper: Roshan Offers BBC Text News Alerts to Mobile Users – Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A.

The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), part of the AKDN, is the majority shareholder of Roshan, an Afghanistan mobile operator that is offering its mobile phone users access to BBC World Service news headlines and breaking news alerts with the launch of a new subscription text service. Subscribers will receive national and international headlines and breaking news twice a day in Dari and Pashto. BBC radio programmes can be heard on FM in more than 30 cities and towns in Afghanistan, as well as on medium wave and on shortwave. The collaboration with Roshan network allows the BBC to serve its audiences in Afghanistan via new platforms available to them.
