Mayor Parker Invites Houstonians to Celebrate Citizenship Month in November
6th annual festivities celebrate “the many faces of Houston,” civic engagement and community service
Houston Mayor Annise Parker has proclaimed November 2014 as Citizenship Month, “Celebrating the Many Faces of Houston.” In its sixth year, the celebration commemorates Houston’s rich cultural diversity and the spirit of good citizenship through civic leadership and volunteer community service. The citywide celebration will feature more than 300 special events sponsored by numerous community groups, cultural organizations and educational institutions.
“Citizenship Month is an open invitation for everyone to enjoy a variety of exciting events spotlighting our city’s diverse cultures,” said Mayor Parker. “It is also a call to all Houstonians to put into practice the ideals of good citizenship. This means taking on the shared responsibility of working at the community level as civic leaders and volunteers to ensure that our city continues to be the best place to proudly call home.”
Scheduled events include performing arts programs, art exhibits, films, lectures, discussions, children’s storytime, arts and crafts, festivals and charity walks/runs. The events will take place at designated city libraries, museums, university campuses, neighborhood centers, green spaces and other community venues.
