Ambassador Potzel together with Mrs. Nurjehan Mawani, Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Afghanistan, opened an exhibition of high quality color glazed tiles, designed and produced by young Afghan apprentices in the historic city of Balkh, employing traditional methods and tile making techniques including painted calligraphy (Nasta’liq & Kufic) and mosaic geometric patterns (Moarraq).

This work was carried out in the context of an on-going area development and conservation program implemented by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and supported by the Federal Republic of Germany.

On this occasion, Mrs. Mawani presented the First Lady with a beautiful work depicting the 100 Years of Afghan German Friendship logo.
